The Campus Transformation Project at Providence College started with a campus Master Plan that was implemented over the course of 5 years. Emily Wright was a lead member of the design and management team for the Providence College master plan implementation phases. The goal of the Master Plan was to develop a cohesive campus identity and to rectify the imbalance between pedestrian and vehicular circulation networks.
The College purchased a road from the City of Providence that had previously bisected the campus for decades. Through the Campus Transformation Project, the road was removed and turned into a pedestrian corridor. The park-like setting of the pedestrian corridor includes outdoor classrooms, emergency vehicle access, accessible routes, and rain gardens that were created in collaboration with the College’s Biology Department.
